Trump: Iran won’t accept deal US needs, threatens to attack Oman

US President Donald Trump has said that Iran will not accept an agreement that he believes is necessary to end the war between the two countries, and stressed that Tehran must raise the “white flag of surrender.”

Trump said at the White House that the US goal is to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon, adding that Washington is not currently seeking to extend the interim agreement with Tehran.

These statements were made at a time when negotiations between Iran and the United States have stalled and the interim agreement of June has effectively collapsed. According to the initial understanding, the two sides were to negotiate within 60 days to reach a final agreement on broader issues, including Iran’s nuclear program.

At the same time, Oman and Iran are in talks to restore commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a route through which about 20 percent of the world’s oil and liquefied gas passed before the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump warned that if Oman “obstructs” this process, the United States will target the country.
