Pakistan’s Supreme Court orders Imran Khan’s transfer from prison to hospital
Pakistan’s Supreme Court has ordered the transfer of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from prison to a hospital, a move long demanded by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party and his family.
Imran Khan, 73, has been in prison since August 2023 and has been convicted in several cases. He has considered these cases political and denied the charges against him.
Imran Khan’s sons and his lawyers had previously expressed concern about the deterioration of his health. His lawyers have said that the vision in Imran Khan’s right eye has significantly decreased during his imprisonment.
Based on the Supreme Court’s order, Imran Khan must be transferred to Shifa International Hospital within 48 hours and remain under the care of doctors until September 16.
A spokesperson for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party welcomed the decision and said that this action should have been taken sooner so that Imran Khan’s health condition would not have deteriorated to this extent.
