At least seven killed in stampede at Indian temple
At least seven people have been killed and several others injured in a stampede outside the Ashoka X temple in the Indian state of Bihar.
According to the Indian Express, the incident took place this morning in the Lakhisarai area when thousands of people had gathered around the temple to worship on the third Monday of the religious month of Sawan.
According to reports, the situation quickly became critical as the number of pilgrims suddenly increased and barriers around the temple were breached.
Initial reports suggested that a fallen power pole and rumors of live wires among the crowd may have caused panic and a stampede; but local officials say the exact cause of the incident is still unknown.
The injured in the incident have been transferred to nearby hospitals and are undergoing treatment.
