The Spanish government has announced that the massive wave of migrants entering the North African city of Ceuta has been contained and a large portion of the migrants have returned to Morocco.
According to Reuters, Spanish authorities said that more than 50,000 migrants entered the city of Ceuta from Moroccan territory on Friday.
The report states that the bodies of 57 people were found on Spanish soil, and it is possible that a number of others died while crossing the border or in border waters in Moroccan territory.
At the same time, Italy has announced that it will temporarily suspend the implementation of the Schengen agreement with Spain, a move that will affect air and sea travel between the two countries, a decision that the Spanish government has called contrary to European Union law.
