The Japanese government has officially established the “National Intelligence Office” as the country’s first centralized intelligence agency since the end of World War II.
This institution was established with the aim of strengthening information coordination, increasing the ability to counter security threats, and improving cooperation between government agencies.
According to reports, the National Intelligence Office, which was established at the initiative of the government of Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, has replaced the Cabinet Intelligence and Research Office (CIRO).
All government agencies, including the Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs, and the Japanese Police, will be required to share their information with this office; this body will operate under the supervision of the “National Intelligence Council” headed by the Prime Minister.
