Oman announces creation of temporary sea route in Strait of Hormuz
Oman’s official news agency announced that the country has provided a temporary sea route for all ships, given its responsibility for the Strait of Hormuz and the importance of this port to the global economy.
The announcement states that this action was taken within the framework of respecting international law, the law of the seas, and ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without collecting transit fees.
According to this report, the creation of this temporary sea route was made following consultations and efforts between Iran and the United States of America and in coordination with the International Maritime Organization.
Omani officials have said that this route has been determined based on coordinates determined by the International Maritime Organization and the country’s competent institutions.
Also, ships requesting to pass through this route must make the necessary coordination with the International Maritime Organization.
