Kabulov: Opposition from a Shanghai Cooperation Organization member has hindered Afghanistan’s participation
Zamir Kabulov, Russia’s special representative for Afghanistan, has said that due to opposition from one of the member states, Afghanistan has not yet been able to fully participate in the activities of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
Without naming a specific country, he emphasized that Afghanistan’s full membership and participation requires the consensus of all members of this organization.
Kabulov added that Afghanistan is still recognized as an observer in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, but after the Islamic Emirate took power, its presence in the organization’s activities has been limited.
He also announced Russia’s continued efforts to help stabilize Afghanistan and said that representatives of the Islamic Emirate will be present at future “Moscow Format” meetings.
