The European Union supports the development of sustainable food systems and access to water in Afghanistan

The European Union has announced its support for the World Food Programme in Afghanistan to improve access to water resources and develop sustainable food systems.

The European Union Delegation in Kabul has said that the Hamid Abad Irrigation Canal, more than 7 kilometers long in Arghanj Khwa district of Badakhshan province, has provided sustainable and secure agriculture for about 18,000 people.

According to the report, in addition to strengthening the agricultural sector, the implementation of this project has also created new economic and livelihood opportunities for women.

The European Union added that this project aims to increase resilience to climate change and better manage water resources, and plays an important role in improving food security and economic development of local communities.
