China calls for Shanghai Cooperation Organization support for AFG’s reconstruction and development

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called on member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) to support the reconstruction and development process in Afghanistan.

According to Chinese media reports, on Monday, at a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Beijing, he stressed that the organization should play a more prominent role as a constructive and progressive stabilizing force in the world.

The Chinese Foreign Minister also called on members of the organization to support comprehensive and sustainable common security, strengthen peace and stability in the Middle East, and support the reconstruction and development of Afghanistan.

Wang Yi noted that the SCO should be a model for regional cooperation in promoting peace, development and mutually beneficial cooperation.

He added that since its establishment, this organization has created a new model of cooperation between neighboring countries and has played a role in shaping a new type of international relations.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization was established in 2001 and has now become one of the largest regional cooperation organizations in the world in terms of geographical scope and population, with 10 core members, two observer countries, and 15 dialogue partners.
