India on maritime alert after US attacks on oil tankers

The Indian government has ordered the country’s maritime and security agencies to be on full alert to deal with any emergency situation related to Indian seafarers and the country’s maritime interests.

The decision comes after three recent US attacks on oil tankers carrying Indian crews; one of the attacks reportedly killed three Indian sailors.

The Indian Ministry of Shipping has announced in a statement that the government of the country is in close coordination with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Navy, shipping companies and maritime institutions of friendly countries to provide necessary support to Indian seafarers.

The statement emphasized that all relevant institutions have been instructed to remain at a high level of readiness and be ready to respond quickly to any emergency at sea.

Indian officials have also said that the security situation of the country’s seafarers and ships is being constantly monitored and necessary measures will continue to be taken to protect India’s maritime interests.
