Dan Jarvis appointed as new British Defence Secretary

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed Dan Jarvis as the country’s new Defense Secretary, amid a political crisis and increasing pressure on his government.

This appointment came hours after the resignations of former Defense Secretary John Haley and Armed Services Secretary Al Karnes, and indicates serious disagreements within the cabinet over the military budget and defense investment plans.

In her resignation letter, John Haley stated that the budget allocated for the government’s defense investment program is far less than what is needed to ensure the country’s security and defense in the current circumstances.

The resignation of two senior defence officials and the urgent appointment of a new minister have increased pressure on the Starmer government and once again highlighted internal Labour Party divisions over defence and fiscal policies.
