New study finds:Weight loss and diabetes drugs reduce breast cancer risk

The results of a new study show that weight loss and diabetes drugs from the GLP-1 group, including Ozempic and Vigovy, may be effective in reducing the risk of breast cancer in addition to controlling blood sugar and losing weight.

Researchers examined data from more than 110,000 overweight women aged 45 to 80 between 2022 and 2025 and found that women who used these drugs had a 30.5% lower risk of developing breast cancer.

According to this study, taking these drugs also reduced the likelihood of breast cancer spreading to other parts of the body by 50 percent and increased the five-year survival rate of patients by 6 percent.

The researchers say these results held even after taking into account factors such as age, race, breast tissue density and diabetes.

However, scientists have emphasized that this study was observational and that large-scale clinical trials are necessary to definitively prove the effectiveness of these drugs in preventing cancer.
