Zaproje power plant official: Attacks on nuclear facilities increase risk of radioactive disaster
Evgenia Yashina, communications director for the Zaprozhye nuclear power plant, has warned that attacks on the plant could have dangerous environmental and human consequences.
He has held Ukraine responsible for the attacks around the power plant and claimed that continuing these attacks increases the risk of a radioactive disaster.
In turn, Ukraine has denied these accusations and has repeatedly held Russia responsible for threatening the safety of the power plant and militarizing the facility.
The International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly expressed concerns about the security situation at the Zaporozhye power plant, but in many cases has been unable to independently and conclusively identify those responsible for the reported attacks.
Power plant officials have warned that damage to support systems and ancillary facilities could lead to the release of radioactive materials and widespread contamination of surrounding areas.
