Shoigu: US and NATO military presence in Afghanistan is unacceptable
Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Russia, has announced that the deployment of infrastructure and military presence of the United States and NATO in Afghanistan and neighboring countries is unacceptable to Russia.
Shoigu said at the “Central Asia-Russia” summit in Moscow that, given the recent developments in Iran and the region, the US and NATO military presence in and around Afghanistan will only increase security threats.
The Secretary of the Russian Security Council also described the situation in Afghanistan as complicated and added that the main responsibility for the current situation in the country lies with NATO member states, and this issue should be considered in interactions with the current Afghan authorities.
