Freight train collides with passenger bus in Bangkok, at least eight dead, 35 injured

At least eight people have been killed and 35 others injured after a freight train collided with a passenger bus in the center of the Thai capital, Bangkok.

Al Jazeera reported that the incident occurred on Saturday evening near the Airport Rail Link station in central Bangkok.

According to reports, the accident occurred when a bus was stuck at a railway crossing and was hit by a freight train after the security barriers were lowered; the train is said to have then dragged the bus and several other vehicles with it until the bus caught fire.

At least eight people were killed and 35 others injured in the incident.

The Thai prime minister has ordered an immediate investigation into the cause of the accident. Officials say investigations are ongoing into the operation of the security barriers and how the train stopped.
