News sources have reported that after the arrest of more than 44 senior Shiite clerics in Bahrain, their status and whereabouts have been kept secret by the Al Khalifa government.
According to these reports, since about a week ago, these clerics have completely cut off contact with the outside world, and there is a widespread news boycott surrounding this case.
Reports also indicate that Bahraini police have only contacted the families of a small number of those arrested and requested clothing, while most of these clerics remain in an uncertain situation without access to the most basic amenities.
Human rights sources have described this situation as a clear violation of human rights and an example of enforced disappearance.
