The first meeting of the Afghanistan-Russia Joint Economic Commission was held in Kazan

The first meeting of the Afghanistan-Russia Joint Economic and Trade Commission was held on the sidelines of the 17th International Conference “Russia and the Islamic World” in Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan.

The meeting was chaired by Nida Mohammad Nadeem, Minister of Higher Education of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and was also attended by officials from the Ministries of Industry and Commerce of the two countries.

The meeting discussed expanding economic, trade and transit cooperation, attracting investment, and developing bilateral relations between Kabul and Moscow.

Referring to the Islamic Emirate’s balanced engagement policy, the Minister of Higher Education considered the development of relations with Russia as part of Afghanistan’s foreign policy and emphasized that Afghanistan can become the economic connectivity center of the region.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Alexei Gerzov

The Russian Ministry of Industry and Commerce described the establishment of the joint commission as an important step to strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries.

In the end, the two sides agreed that joint technical teams would work continuously to review and advance cooperation.
