Today is World Press Freedom Day around the world
This day is celebrated every year with the aim of protecting media freedom, emphasizing the responsibility of governments to respect this freedom based on Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and honoring journalists who have lost their lives in this way.
The proposal to name this day was made by UNESCO in 1991, and then in 1993, it was officially declared as World Press Freedom Day by the United Nations General Assembly.
This annual occasion is an opportunity to assess the state of freedom of expression, support independent media, and recall the important role of journalists in informing and raising awareness among society.
