Pakistan intensifies arrests of Afghan citizens, hundreds arrested in Peshawar on charges of illegal residence

Following the increase in tensions and border clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, Peshawar police have arrested hundreds of Afghan citizens on charges of illegal residence.

Pakistani media reported that in the past two days, the process of arresting Afghan nationals across Pakistan has intensified significantly, and extensive operations are underway in Afghan-populated neighborhoods of Peshawar, Karachi, and Quetta.

Peshawar police officials announced that the arrests were carried out as part of an “operation to clear illegal immigrants” and that the arrested individuals had been transferred to temporary deportation centers.

This action comes at a time when relations between Kabul and Islamabad are at their lowest point and mutual military operations continue along the hypothetical Durand Line.
