Moldova bans flights from Afghan, Russian, Iranian, and North Korean airlines

The Moldovan government has banned or severely restricted the operations of airlines from more than 20 countries, including Afghanistan, Russia, Iran, and North Korea, in the country’s airspace and airports due to serious concerns about aviation safety and security.

The order was signed by Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea and covers more than 200 airlines. Most of these companies face a complete flight ban, with only a limited number receiving very limited operating permits.

The decision in this regard was made due to security assessments and uncertainty about compliance with international safety standards by the aforementioned companies.

This ban will continue until Moldova joins the European Union and is considered one of the prerequisites for full convergence with EU aviation standards.
