Japan donates $6.3 million to vaccinate Afghan children against polio

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that the Japanese government has donated 6.3 million US dollars to Afghanistan to eradicate polio.

This financial contribution was provided to UNICEF through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and is part of global efforts to completely eliminate the polio virus from Afghanistan.

UNICEF emphasized that using this assistance, more than 12 million children under the age of five across the country will receive doses of polio vaccine over the next 12 months.

This action comes at a time when Afghanistan is one of the few remaining countries with reported cases of polio, and widespread and ongoing vaccination is considered essential to protect children and prevent the resurgence of the virus.
