Chinese state media reported that an explosion at a small biotechnology company in the north of the country has killed at least eight people.
The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday,in Shuoyang City, Shanxi Province, and thick, dark yellow smoke rose from the scene.
The official Xinhua news agency said the legal representative of the Jia Peng Biotechnology Company had been detained and a special investigation team had been formed to investigate the cause of the incident.
Jia Peng Company, founded in June 2025, is engaged in research related to animal feed, coal products, and building materials and is located in a mountainous area.
The exact cause of the explosion has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.
