UN Security Council to hold meeting today on growing ISIS threat

The United Nations Security Council will hold a special meeting on Wednesday (4 February 2026) to discuss the threat posed by the ISIS terrorist group to international peace and security.

According to the report of the UN Secretary-General, which was submitted to the members of the Council on January 31, the threat from ISIS is constantly increasing and the situation, especially on the African continent, is described as very worrying.

The report, emphasizing the “ISIS Khorasan” branch, claimed that the group is still active in the north and border areas of Afghanistan and is considered a serious threat.

In contrast, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has repeatedly stressed that ISIS has been completely suppressed in the country and has no ability to organize or carry out operations against other countries from Afghanistan.
