For the first time, the Zionist regime accepted the figure of more than 71,000 martyrs in Gaza
According to the Haaretz newspaper, the Israeli army confirmed for the first time the statistics of the Palestinian Ministry of Public Health in Gaza, admitting that more than 71,000 Palestinians have been martyred in the two-year war in Gaza; this decision is in complete contradiction to Tel Aviv’s previous position, which considered these statistics unreliable and influenced by Hamas.
The Gaza Health Ministry announced that at least 71,667 people have been martyred since October 7, 2023. The Israeli army emphasized that this figure only includes direct martyrs of military attacks and does not include people missing under the rubble, deaths due to hunger, disease, or siege.
Haaretz, citing a senior regime military official, wrote that the information from the Gaza Health Ministry is now considered reliable and that international organizations also consider it valid.
However, some independent reports, including a study in June 2025, have estimated the actual number of martyrs to be around 200,000, describing the official figures as conservative.
In addition to the martyrs, more than 171,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been injured; about 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been destroyed, and the UN has estimated the cost of reconstruction at about $7 billion.
Gaza, with a population of 2.4 million, including 1.5 million refugees, continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis.
Despite the ceasefire, severe restrictions on the entry of food, medicine, and essential items continue, and daily violations of the agreement have so far led to the martyrdom of at least 488 Palestinians.
Israel is still recognized as the occupying power in Gaza because it has complete control of the coastal airspace and borders.
