Delcy Rodriguez: Amnesty plan for hundreds of Venezuelan political prisoners is coming

Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, announced the presentation of a “general amnesty law” that, if approved, could lead to the release of hundreds of political prisoners.

According to Rodriguez, this amnesty will cover crimes related to “political violence,” demonstrations and activities of political opponents.

However, serious crimes such as murder, drug trafficking, corruption, and human rights violations will be completely excluded from this amnesty.

This plan has been proposed at a time when Venezuela continues to face domestic political challenges, scattered protests, and international pressure over the situation of political prisoners and human rights.

The passage and implementation of such a law could be considered an important step towards reducing internal tensions and improving the country’s political climate.
