In a clear intervention in Iraq’s internal affairs, US President Donald Trump claimed that if Nouri al-Maliki is elected as US Prime Minister, the US will no longer provide aid to Iraq.
These statements by Trump, which are seen as a direct threat to the process of forming a new Iraqi government, prompted a strong reaction from the Islamic Dawa Party.
This morning (Wednesday, 8th of Dawa 1404), the Dawa Party published a picture of Nouri al-Maliki on its official website and placed next to it verse 257 of Surah Al-Baqarah: “Allah is the protector of those who believe, He brings them out of darkness into light, and those who disbelieve, their masters are the Taghut.”
This reaction by the Dawa Party is considered the first official Iraqi response to Trump’s interference in the selection of the prime minister and the formation of the country’s new government, and it indicates a clear rejection of foreign interference in Iraq’s internal affairs.
