The European Union will not back down in the face of US threats to Greenland’s sovereignty and our strategic interests

Responding to recent US pressure on the Greenland issue, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stressed that the European Union is fully united in upholding the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland and will maintain this common position.

He stressed that the European Union firmly defends its strategic economic and security interests and will not back down from any threat that targets these interests.

Von der Leyen added that Europe will stand firm and determined against the challenges that target European solidarity and will not allow this solidarity to be weakened.

On the other hand, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadful stated that if the United States seriously moves towards imposing customs tariffs against European countries, a European response will be inevitable.

He considered the sovereignty of Denmark and Greenland inviolable and emphasized that any decision about the future of Greenland lies solely with the people and government of this autonomous region.
