Qatar preliminary meeting of OIC contact group on Afghanistan needs balanced approach
Qatar attended the preliminary technical meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Ministerial Contact Group on Afghanistan held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Dr. Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Khelaifi, the representative of Qatar, emphasized that this meeting, at this critical juncture, requires a balanced approach that combines urgent humanitarian assistance, responsible political engagement, and understanding of the specific circumstances of Afghanistan within the framework of OIC principles.
He considered this meeting an important opportunity to coordinate efforts and develop practical proposals so that the Contact Group can take more effective measures towards Afghanistan.
Al-Khelaifi referred to Qatar’s hosting of the UN-led “Doha Process” and considered it an important achievement on the path to constructive dialogue.
He added that in the third round of this process, two specialized working groups have been established in the field of counter-narcotics and the role of the private sector.
The Qatari representative concluded by expressing hope that this meeting would lead to practical results and pave the way for Islamic solidarity and a responsible collective approach towards Afghanistan.
