For the first time since the Islamic Emirate took over, an Afghan diplomat entered India and took over the New Delhi embassy
The Indian newspaper The Hindu reported that for the first time since the Islamic Emirate returned to power in Kabul in August 2020, a diplomat nominated by the Islamic Emirate has entered Indian soil and will take charge of the Afghan embassy in New Delhi.
According to this report, Noor Ahmad Noor, a senior official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, has arrived in New Delhi and is scheduled to work as the Chargé d’Affaires of the Afghan Embassy in India.
Informed sources told the newspaper that this decision was made after direct negotiations and discussions between Indian officials and the government of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
This diplomatic development occurred following the visit of Amir Khan Mottaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate, to New Delhi in October 2025, Mizan 1404, during which Mottaqi met with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and discussed various issues, including bilateral relations.
The Indian newspaper described this event as an important and new step in diplomatic interactions between India and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and believes that it could influence the future course of relations between the two countries.
So far, no official statement has been issued by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs or the Islamic Emirate on this matter
