UNODC Report: High Compliance with Poppy Ban in Badakhshan, Balkh, and Kunduz

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) announced that compliance with the ban on drug cultivation in Badakhshan, Balkh, and Kunduz provinces is high, but most farming families have not been able to compensate for the lost income due to the ban on poppy cultivation.

According to this organization’s survey, 85 percent of families in these provinces either have no alternative income for poppy cultivation or only partially provide it.

Yuan ODC added that only 15 percent of families have managed to fully compensate for their economic losses through alternative livelihoods.

This report demonstrates the profound impact of the economic shock on landowners and peasants and emphasizes the urgent need for targeted livelihood support for these families.
