115 ISIS suspects arrested in Türkiye on charges of planning attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations

Turkish security forces arrested 115 suspected members of the ISIS terrorist group in a wide-ranging operation across the country, especially in Istanbul.

These individuals are accused of planning attacks during Christmas and New Year celebrations, particularly against non-Muslims.

The Istanbul Supreme Court announced that arrest warrants were issued for 137 suspects and simultaneous operations were carried out in 124 locations.

During the raids, handguns, ammunition, and organizational documents were seized; the search continues for the remaining 22 suspects.

Turkish authorities stressed that the arrested individuals had been in contact with ISIS members outside the country, including in conflict zones.

The operation was carried out in order to increase security measures before the end-of-year holidays, and Turkey, which has declared ISIS a terrorist organization since 2013, remains one of the group’s main targets.
