Orchuk :Russia is very interested in building a railway through Afghanistan
Russian media quoted Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Urchuk as saying that the country is very interested in building a trans-Afghan railway through Afghanistan and that talks have begun with regional partners including Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Orchuk emphasized that creating more opportunities to connect Russia with the countries of the Global South would benefit the country, especially in the transport and trade of goods sectors.
This project is part of the North-South International Transport Corridor and can transport a significant volume of Russian cargo, up to 15 million tons per year.
The feasibility study for this project is underway and is expected to be ready in early 2026.
These measures are aimed at strengthening Russia’s economic relations with Central and South Asian countries.
