UN fate of Afghan refugees in Pakistan remains uncertain

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said that nearly 2.8 million Afghan refugees will return to their country from Iran and Pakistan by 2025, but the fate of the remaining refugees in Pakistan remains uncertain and their situation is worrying.

The organization’s new report states that Afghanistan is facing a growing humanitarian crisis caused by deteriorating human rights, persistent economic challenges, frequent natural disasters, and limited access to basic services.

The large-scale return of these refugees has placed additional pressure on Afghanistan’s limited resources.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees also warned that the humanitarian assistance program in Afghanistan is facing a severe funding shortage, with only 37 percent of the $478 million needed for 2025 having been funded
