About 1,000 Afghans file a lawsuit against the UK Defense Ministry
The Financial Times reported that about 1,000 Afghan citizens, including interpreters and former British forces in Afghanistan, have taken the first formal step to take legal action against the British Ministry of Defence.
These individuals claim that in 2021, during the ARAP (Address Resettlement Application Process), the UK Ministry of Defence inadvertently disclosed their personal information, including their names, emails, profile photos and job details, in group emails, exposing them and their families to threats.
Lawyers for the plaintiffs have announced that a class action lawsuit is under consideration and may be filed with the UK Supreme Court.
They have accused the Ministry of Defence of violating the Data Protection Act (GDP) and negligence.
The British Ministry of Defense previously described the incident as a “serious mistake” and apologized, but stressed that corrective measures had been taken.
