Chairman of the Pakistani Ulema Council welcomes the fatwa of Afghan scholars
Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, the head of the Pakistani Ulema Council, welcomed the recent fatwa issued by Afghan religious scholars condemning border attacks and the use of one country’s territory against another, and called on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to make serious efforts to implement this fatwa.
Emphasizing the key role of religious scholars in both countries, Ashrafi stated that scholars on both sides of the hypothetical Durand Line want lasting peace and there is no difference in the positions of scholars in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He added that this fatwa could pave the way for strengthening brotherly relations and ending border tensions.
The head of the Pakistani Ulema Council also emphasized that just as Afghan scholars have declared it forbidden to use the country’s soil against Pakistan, Pakistani soil should not be misused against Afghanistan, and the scholars are committed to cooperation in this regard.
These statements come at a time when prominent Afghan scholars, including muftis and members of the Ulema Council, have recently issued a joint fatwa, declaring any attack on Pakistan from Afghan soil to be forbidden and haram according to Islamic law.
