Israeli airstrike on southern Beirut suburb kills senior Hezbollah commander, casualties rise
The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that at least five Lebanese citizens were martyred and 28 others were injured as a result of the “barbaric” Israeli airstrike on the Haret Harik area in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
According to Israeli sources, the main goal of this attack was to assassinate Haitham Ali Tabatabaei, one of the senior military commanders of Hezbollah in Lebanon, who served as the group’s chief of staff.
The Israeli prime minister claimed responsibility for the assassination and described it as part of an effort to prevent Hezbollah’s military reconstruction.
Lebanese Hezbollah issued a statement confirming the martyrdom of the great jihadist commander Haitham Ali Tabatabaei, calling the attack a criminal and treacherous one that occurred in the Haret Harik area of Beirut’s suburbs.
The incident marks the first Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese capital since June and could jeopardize a fragile ceasefire between the two sides.
Hezbollah described the move as a gateway to escalating attacks and warned that it would respond appropriately.
