Netanyahu traveled to southern Syria with senior regime military officials, Guterres says public visit is worrisome
The Israeli Prime Minister’s Office announced on Wednesday evening (November 19, 2025) that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu traveled to southern Syria along with Defense Minister Israel Katz, Chief of Staff of the Army Eyal Zamir, and Head of Internal Security David Zini.
According to the announcement, after crossing the border line, Netanyahu entered parts of Syrian territory that are under the control of the Israeli army forces and visited the forces stationed in the area.
This visit took place while Syria called it a “clear violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity” and condemned it in the strongest terms.
Syria’s ambassador to the United Nations, Ibrahim al-Arabi, called on the Security Council to take urgent measures to stop these violations and implement the 1974 Non-Conflict Agreement.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also described the visit as “highly public and concerning” and called on Israel to respect the 1974 Non-Conflict Agreement.
