Uzbekistan to continue supplying Afghanistan with electricity in 2026; Agreement on joint energy projects

The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan announced that the country will continue to supply electricity to Afghanistan in 2026.

The decision was registered during the signing of an agreement between Uzbek Energy Minister Jalabak Mirza Muhammadov and a delegation headed by Abdul Bari Omar, CEO of Afghanistan Electricity Company.

According to a statement from the Uzbek Energy Ministry, the agreement focuses on advancing several major joint energy projects in Afghanistan, including the construction of high-voltage power transmission lines and substations to accelerate their completion.

Last August, Uzbekistan and the Breshna Company signed a financial agreement to support these initiatives.

These projects are expected to be completed within the next 18 months and will enable Afghanistan to import between 800 and 1,000 megawatts of electricity from Uzbekistan.

These initiatives will not only strengthen the country’s energy infrastructure, but will also deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries and contribute to energy stability in the region.
