Second telephone conversation between Afghan and Iranian foreign ministers in the past ten days focuses on reducing regional tensions
Amir Khan Mottaqi, Foreign Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, and his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi, held their second telephone conversation in the past ten days yesterday.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced in an official statement that bilateral relations and the current situation in the region, especially tensions between Kabul and Islamabad, were discussed in the call.
Araghchi, emphasizing Tehran’s readiness to maintain regional peace and stability, insisted on the need to strengthen the dialogue process to resolve tensions.
On the other hand, Mottaqi appreciated Iran’s diplomatic efforts and added that continuing regional consultations could greatly help improve the situation.
This conversation comes after Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh announced in an interview with a Russian media outlet that a regional meeting would be held in mid-December to resolve tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan.
He added that all neighboring countries, including Russia and China, will be present at the meeting.
