Pakistani police said Tuesday’s blast near the Supreme Courts area of Islamabad was a failed suicide attack.
According to the Express Tribune newspaper, the suicide bomber attempted to enter the court premises, but after failing to pass through security barriers, he detonated his explosives near a police vehicle.
The exact details of the casualties in the incident have not yet been announced, but police sources have reported that several people were injured. The area was immediately cordoned off and an extensive investigation has been launched to identify the perpetrator or perpetrators and the motive for the attack.
This is the first suicide attack in the Pakistani capital in months and has raised concerns about a return to terrorist activity.
