Afghanistan-Pakistan border ports closed, more than $200 million in losses in less than a month

The closure of border ports between Afghanistan and Pakistan, which began on October 12, 2025, has so far caused more than $200 million in economic damage to both countries and has completely halted transit trade with Central Asia.

According to a report by the Pakistani newspaper “The Nation” on November 10, 2025, in the first 24 days alone (to early November), direct losses exceeded $50 million, and as ports continued to remain closed, daily losses reached millions of dollars.

Thousands of trucks are stuck on both sides of the port, perishable goods such as fresh fruits and vegetables are being destroyed, and food prices in Pakistan have skyrocketed.

Officials say Afghanistan imports about $150 million from Pakistan and exports $60 million a month, but the crisis has disrupted trade.

Pakistan’s exports to Central Asia have also stopped, and more than a thousand freight trucks are stranded at the Karachi port.
