Shaheen:Pakistan demands absolute security guarantee, talks deadlocked

Suhail Shaheen, the Islamic Emirate’s ambassador to Qatar and a member of the negotiating team with Pakistan in Istanbul, announced that Islamabad had asked the Islamic Emirate to guarantee that no security incidents would occur on Pakistani soil, but this request was rejected, leading to a deadlock in the talks.

“Just as the responsibility for security in Afghanistan is on us, it is also on them in Pakistan,” Shaheen said in an interview with the BBC. No one can guarantee that no security incident will occur in Pakistan.

He added that Pakistani officials claim that the Pakistani Taliban (TTP) is organizing its attacks from Afghanistan, a claim that the Islamic Emirate has denied.

The talks, the second round of which was held in Istanbul with the mediation of Turkey and Qatar, agreed to continue the ceasefire, but the next round is scheduled to continue on Thursday of this week
