Saudi writer’s sharp response to Israeli minister: Our camels have roots, yours don’t
Saudi writer Ali Al-Khashiban responded to the insulting remarks of the Israeli Finance Minister, Bezalel Smotrich, who said that if Saudi Arabia wants normalization in return for the establishment of a Palestinian state, then no thanks, continue riding camels in the desert.
The Saudi writer emphasized: “Our message is clear; peace and normalization are not possible without the formation of an independent Palestinian state.”
He added: “We built a country the size of a continent with camels without destroying a house or killing an innocent human being, while you live on land that does not belong to you and you do not even know its value.”
Smotrich, one of the extremist figures in Netanyahu’s cabinet, said again at his party’s weekly meeting a few days after apologizing for similar statements last week: “No one is doing us any favors by normalizing relations with us and joining the Abraham Accords.”
It is worth noting that Saudi Arabia had previously insisted on its consistent position that the formation of a Palestinian state is necessary for any normalization of relations with Israel.
