According to Israeli media reports, Tel Aviv has deployed advanced air defense systems with a range of 400 kilometers in Cyprus.
The move comes amid rising tensions with Türkiye, and the defense systems are capable of intercepting drones, fighter jets, and cruise missiles.
Israel last week delivered the third shipment of Barak MX systems to Cyprus, replacing older Russian systems such as the Tor M1, according to Middle East Eye and Forbes.
These systems provide information coverage of up to 460 kilometers with advanced 3D radar and monitor part of the southern sky of Türkiye.
Turkish analysts have described the system as more dangerous than the S-300, which sparked the Cyprus crisis in the 1990s.
Benjamin Netanyahu recently explicitly opposed Türkiye’s presence in Gaza, calling it a “threat to the security of the Israeli regime.”
