Saleh bin Fawzan Al-Fawzan became the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia by decree of King Salman

The official Saudi Press Agency announced on Wednesday evening that King Salman bin Abdulaziz of Saudi Arabia has appointed Saleh bin Fawzan bin Abdullah Al-Fawzan as the country’s new Grand Mufti.

This appointment was made based on the proposal of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Al-Fawzan, who is a prominent Salafi scholar and a member of the Board of Senior Scholars, will also assume the presidency of the Board of Senior Scholars and the presidency of the Saudi Scientific Research and Fatwa Institution.

Al-Fawzan was born on September 28, 1935 (1354 AH) in the city of Al-Shamasiyah, Qassim Province, and has previously played a key role in issuing religious fatwas and teaching at Saudi universities.

This change came after the death of the former Grand Mufti, Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh, who was from the founding family of Wahhabism, and introduces Al-Fawzan as the fourth Saudi Grand Mufti.
