Türkiye’s military presence in three Arab countries to continue until 2028
The Turkish parliament has authorized President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to continue military operations in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon until 2028.
According to Anadolu Agency, the Turkish Parliament approved a proposal on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) that extends the authorization for cross-border anti-terrorist operations in northern Iraq and Syria for another two years and also continues the presence of Turkish forces in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) until October 2027, which with previous extensions will extend to 2028.
The Turkish government has deemed this extension necessary to counter the threats of the PKK/YPG, ISIS and ISIS, and has emphasized that the operations will ensure national security and the return of Syrian refugees to northern Syria.
This action comes as regional tensions with Syria and Iraq have increased and Türkiye has intensified its drone and ground operations.
