Russia Attacks Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure Defense Index Reports Missile and Drone Attacks
Last night and Wednesday morning Russian forces targeted Ukrainian oil and gas energy infrastructure with missiles and suicide drones.
The Defense Index report suggests that the attacks are part of Moscow’s strategy to weaken Kiev’s energy grid ahead of winter, leading to widespread power outages and disruptions to gas production.
According to reports from the General Staff of the Ukrainian Army and the country’s Ministry of Energy, Russia has fired more than 450 drones and 30 missiles, the majority of which hit energy production and distribution facilities in the Kharkiv, Poltava, Chernihiv, and Zaporizhia regions.
The attacks, which Russia described as a response to Kiev’s attacks on “Russian” civilian targets, have left at least five dead, dozens injured and thousands of households without electricity and gas.
