Mexico flood death toll rises to 64, 65 missing
The Mexican government announced that the death toll from the torrential rains caused by Tropical Storms Priscilla and Raymond has risen to 64, with another 65 people still missing.
These storms have caused sea surges, landslides, and widespread flooding in parts of the central states and the Gulf Coast of Mexico.
Heavy rains have hit states such as Veracruz, Tabasco and Puebla since early last week, displacing thousands of people, according to Reuters.
Local authorities have reported the evacuation of more than 10,000 people, and search and rescue operations are continuing using helicopters and rescue teams.
President Claudia Scheinbaum has promised rapid reconstruction of damaged infrastructure and immediate assistance to survivors.
This event is one of the most severe recent natural disasters in the region, and international organizations have emphasized the need to strengthen climate-resilient infrastructure.
