42 killed, more than 30 injured in South Africa bus overturn

At least 42 people have been killed and more than 30 injured after a passenger bus overturned on the N1 highway near the town of Makhado in Limpopo province, according to reports.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when the bus was travelling from the town of Gekbere in the Eastern Cape province towards Zimbabwe and Malawi.

According to Al Jazeera, the victims of the incident included 18 women, 17 men and 7 children.

Local authorities announced that an investigation has been launched to identify the exact cause of the incident, with driver fatigue or technical failure being considered as possible causes.

The condition of the injured remains under medical supervision and efforts to assist the survivors are ongoing.
