Germany holds talks with Afghan officials in Kabul to deport Afghan criminals
The German Ministry of the Interior confirmed that representatives of this country met with officials of the Ministry of the Interior of the Islamic Emirate in Kabul last week and discussed the implementation of regular flights to repatriate Afghan citizens with criminal records.
According to German media reports, these negotiations were held at the level of high-ranking officials with the aim of regulating the process of deporting criminal Afghans from Germany.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said in an interview with the Bild newspaper: “The deportation of criminals and threatening individuals must be carried out systematically; that is why we are now talking directly in Kabul to make this process sustainable.”
These talks are taking place at a time when Germany does not have formal diplomatic relations with the Islamic Emirate, and contact with this group has always been a controversial issue in German domestic politics.
Since the Islamic Emirate took control in August 2021, Germany, with the cooperation of Qatar, has twice deported a number of Afghan citizens.
